This two-day course.

Basic Electricity covers basic electricity concepts for those that are new to controls and motors.

Audience

This course is primarily for Electrical Panel Operators, Electricians, and Supervisors.

Agenda

Day 1
• Terms & Definitions.
• Fundamentals of Electrical Safety: Arc Flash / Shock & GFI
• Nature of Electricity: Electron Flow, Free Electron, etc..
• Basic Electrical Quantities: What is a watt, volt, amp, etc..
• OHM’s Law: Peer Wheel, Series
Lunch
• Safety Film
• OHM’s Law : Figuring Equations, Parrell
• House Wiring, circuits, wire sizing, line loss, cross sections, fuses, breakers, available fault current, lamps.
Day 2
• Static Generators, Electromagnetic Generators, DC and AC
• Transformers: Delta – Wye
• Diodes, Caps, Chokes, Resistors, Rectifiers, etc.. – Demo Board with Scope.
Lunch
• Safety Film
• Motors: 1 Phase, 3 Phase and Power Factor
• Motor Control and Blue Prints, Demo Start/Stop Circuits
• Electrical Measuring Instruments, testing fuses and voltages.
• Course Test

Instructor:

Kevin has 30+ years of hydro controls experience serving hydro organizations that must meet NERC, FERC, and ISO standards.   He is an Electrical Engineer, Level III Certified Control Systems Technician, Certified Master Electrician, and Level Iii EPRI Instrument Technician.  He has managed over 50 Hydro controls upgrades over his career.
